About Shannon Mounyo

Thanks for taking the time to visit my webpage!  I am excited to begin my 29th year of teaching!  I began my teaching career at Datil Elementary, where I taught for 5 years.  I couldn't have chosen a better place to begin.  I taught in a multi-grade classroom consisting of kindergarteners through 3rd graders.  I worked with a great staff, had great students, had a classroom that looked out into the pine trees, and I lived in the "Teacherage."  I learned SO much those 5 years, but life happened and I felt I needed to move closer to home.  After visiting Magdalena Elementary School, a position became open and I applied.  I was offered an interview and a position before I could blink my eyes!  I spent the summer moving out of the teacherage and the classroom I loved.  I was scared to death wondering if I was making the right decision.  Upon entering the doors at Magdalena Schools, I felt welcome.  This is my 24th year in the District.  I have taught 3rd grade for 20 years , with the exception of one year where I taught 3rd and 4th grades and 2 years teaching 2nd grade.  While at Magdalena Elementary, I have been able to grow professionally by being allowed to attend conferences across the nation, participated 4 summers at the Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University, furthered my studies to obtain a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University, became certified in TESOL and Reading, and obtained my CDL to drive a bus! I served as the Lead Teacher for 5 years at the Elementary along with my role as a full-time classroom teacher.  Not having children of my own, I let my students fill that void in my heart.  I adore my students and am known for becoming quite attached to them!  I am married, have a step son, step daughter in law, 2 granddaughters and a grandson.  I enjoy riding my horses in the mountains and camping, and I have one very spoiled dog named Bristol.

Nice job! As usual, you are very humble, yet professional and factual. No one could put more into their job than you do. Magdalena is very lucky to have you as a teacher and role model.
